Active Shooter Training Exercise In Caldwell County

Caldwell County REACT members, trained CERT volunteers, participated as victims during a training exercise for the North Catawba Fire and Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office on the evening of March 26 at Baton Elementary School.

Thanks to the talent of Rosemary Hall and her team of moulage artists (special effects make-up), we looked the part of victims of violence. This provided the first responders an opportunity to practice in diagnosing, treating, and moving real people with real-looking wounds. Our REACT members spent 5 hours getting made up and participating as victims.

We were glad to have the opportunity to assist with this important project. We learned a lot and were impressed with the quality of response from the North Catawba Fire and Rescue staff and the Deputy Sheriffs.

New CERT Class in Lenoir Learns Cribbing

Thirteen people will graduate this week from Basic CERT Training in Caldwell County. They did a great job yesterday evening on their search and rescue module that includes cribbing and rescuing 2 victims. They admirably filled the roles of incident commander, record-keeper, safety officer, medical officer, lever operators, and cribbers. Tonight they will learn to use fire extinguishers and utility controls.
