Lenoir Amateur Radio Club Event Announcement

Local amateur radio operators are a critical support group for Caldwell County.  In addition to providing communications support for many community activities, such as cycle races and runs, these unpaid volunteers support the emergency communications needs of Caldwell County Emergency Management during disasters and other emergency situations.  The local radio club also provides three large footprint radio repeaters for public use where emergency information is broadcast and citizens are able to communicate with the outside world when others means fail

Once a year, the Lenoir Amateur Radio Club and area radio operators gather in a public location to demonstrate emergency communications capabilities and disaster readiness.  This year’s event will be held at Caldwell County Emergency Management, HHS Building, 2345 Morganton Blvd SW, Lenoir, for a 24-hour period beginning at 2 PM, Saturday, June 24 until 2 PM, Sunday, June 25.  During this 24-hour period, over 40,000 radio operators in the US and Canada will be operating entirely on emergency power using all modes of communication—Morse code, VHF, UHF, HF and digital.  Setup for this event will begin at 7:30 AM, on Saturday and is a great opportunity to see radio stations and antennas being assembled.  The Lenoir Amateur Radio Club will be operating from the Club’s Communications and Antenna Trailers under emergency generator and solar power in the HHS Building parking lot as well as operating from the Caldwell County EOC radio room.  This event will give the community, elected officials and served agencies the opportunity to see the enhanced resources available during emergencies

I cordially invite you to come by Caldwell County Emergency Management at the HHS Building and see for yourself the dedication of the unique group of local citizens.  Additionally, you can sit down at one of the radio stations and “get on the air” and make a few contacts with others in the state, nationally or worldwide.  I hope you will plan to join us
