Basic CERT Class Finishes with Search and Rescue

Cribbing ExerciseThe July 2016 Basic CERT class ended Saturday, July 30, with an outdoor exercise. They organized by appointing an Incident Commander, Safety Officer, and Medical Officer. They had to find the victim, Sam, the never-complaining training dummy, and safely extricate him from under a pile of rubble followed by emergency medical treatment. A rubber snake was placed strategically to demonstrate potential dangers of outdoor rescues. The team competently raised the debris off the victim using cribbing removing the victim in about 30 minutes. The medical team stabilized the victim’s broken leg using material on hand–a 2×4 and duct tape.
