Large Group Food Prep Report

Church Kithchen with CERT volunteersToday Caldwell County CERT had the class on Food Prep Safety and helped serve dinner for a large group of grateful Lenoir folks. We thank the First United Methodist Church and their CERT team for hosting this event and allowing us to assist with their mission to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We also brought enough homemade desserts that the church has enough to freeze to serve at their next dinner.Church kitchen and CERT volunteers

“Cooking for Groups–A Volunteer’s Guide to Food Safety”

Here is an educational booklet about preparing group meals published by the United States Department of Agriculture. It includes a lot of practical information. This will be useful to folks attending the CERT class on food prep on Saturday, March 22, as well as all our CERT teams who may be called on in an emergency to assist with feeding large groups.

CPR Class Report

We had a good turnout for the CPR class Thursday night. There were several representatives from Smith Memorial United Methodist Church, some from the Ham Radio Club, and other CERT members. Kenny Hall did a good job of instructing the class. It was interesting to learn about the changes in protocol and techniques in the past couple of years. We also learned that in a case of cardiac arrest it is critical to have more than one person doing CPR. 200 chest compressions in 2 minutes is tiring. Thank you, Kenneth Teague for making this class available to our community. It may save a life
