Subject: NC-FIRST: Special Weather Statement – STRONG WINDS TODAY IN THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS

…STRONG WINDS TODAY IN THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS… A STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN LOW PRESSURE OVER THE NORTHEAST AND BUILDING HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE GULF COAST WILL PRODUCE BRISK WINDS TODAY ACROSS THE REGION WITH WIND GUSTS OF 20 TO 30 MPH. HIGHER ELEVATIONS WILL SEE STRONGER GUSTS OF 40 MPH OR MORE…WITH THE HIGHEST PEAKS OCCASIONALLY SEEING GUSTS OF 50 TO 60 MPH DUE TO THEIR BETTER EXPOSURE.

WINDS WILL GRADUALLY RELAX THIS AFTERNOON AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES FURTHER AWAY FROM THE REGION. UNTIL THEN…THE GUSTY WINDS MAY BLOW AROUND LIGHTWEIGHT OUTDOOR OBJECTS INCLUDING TRASH CANS…LAWN FURNITURE…AND DECORATIONS. SECURE THESE OBJECTS TO PREVENT THEM FROM BEING MOVED BY THE WIND.
